Imported template doesn’t look like the demo
This guide covers issues you may have with an Envato Elementor Template Kit not appearing as expected in the Elementor builder. For example, the inserted template may appear empty or blank, load without any styles such as fonts or colors, be missing icons, or maybe everything loads fine but the images are missing.
- Layout loads OK but styles are missing or using default fonts and colors
- Elementor page layout is squished but otherwise OK
Verify Install
Before you begin, make sure your kit is installed correctly without skipping steps. Follow our Install guides to prepare your WordPress setup and install your kit using the Envato Elements plugin for WordPress.
- Hello Elementor Theme should be active
- Kit Required plugins should be loaded and active from Elements > Installed Kits screen
- Global Kit Styles should be installed
Layout loads OK but styles are missing or using default fonts and colors
If colors and fonts don’t look right, the Global Kit Styles are not loaded, or Elementor defaults are enabled.
1. Go to Elementor > Settings and ensure “Disable default fonts…” and “Disable default colors…” options are checked.
2. Go to Elements > Settings and see if you can select your kit from the dropdown in the Elementor box:
If yes, click Update Global Template, then open your template or page in Elementor again.
If no, go to Elements > Installed Kits and click Import Template on the Global Kit Styles, then open your template or page in Elementor again
Elementor page layout is squished but otherwise OK
If your layout is boxed/squished or appears to be loading inside of another template layout, your theme does not have full-width content, the page is not set to the right layout setting, or an Elementor Pro global template has the wrong conditions.
- Click the gear icon in the Elementor toolbar (or bottom right with toolbar disabled) to access Page Settings
- Ensure Elementor Full Width is selected in the Page Layout drop-down
Still Boxed?
In most cases, using Elementor Full Width or Canvas page layouts will allow Elementor layouts to work with any theme that supports Elementor. However, some themes don’t play nice or force their own page formatting.
- Go to Appearance > Themes and ensure Hello Elementor is installed and activated. If this solves the formatting issue, continue using Hello Elementor or try a different theme built specifically for Elementor.
Layout loading inside a global layout
If you have Elementor Pro, your Single Page or Single Post template may have incorrect conditions that cause it to load on all templates if you are previewing templates directly rather than inserting them into a page with the Elementor Full Width Layout.
- Go to Templates > Theme Builder
- Click Edit Conditions under the Single Post template
- Ensure the condition is simply Posts (not All Singular) and click Save & Close
Template loads with placeholder images
If kit images are not imported, there may be limitations on your host that prevent the assets from transferring or saving to your WordPress media library. Limitations can include file upload size, folder permissions, restrictive script configurations, or security settings but may also be caused by plugin conflicts, especially with caching or image optimization plugins.
Check your plugins
- Go to Plugins and ensure all plugins are updated
- Deactivate all plugins other than Elementor/Elementor Pro and the Envato Elements plugin, then go to Elements > Installed Kits to click the “Install Requirements” button to reactivate only your kit plugins.
- If this solved your issue, you’ll need to troubleshoot your plugin configuration or activate other plugins later once your kit is imported successfully
- If issues persist, continue:
Check your server limits
Server limitations are the most common cause of import failures and are usually a symptom of unoptimized PHP setups
- Go to Elements > Settings and scroll down to Server Limits to ensure all checks are green
- Red warnings indicate limitations that may prevent the smooth operation of WordPress functions and must be resolved by your hosting provider.
Workaround
Template kits are primarily the page layouts and intend for you to replace the images with your own. This is required if you do not have an Envato subscription for premium photos.
If image imports are the only issue and you can’t find a solution or other requirements prevent the uploads, you may download your kit images and upload them to WordPress by checking the item page on our website. The image collection URL will be listed at the end of the description and will contain the images used in the kit.
In the event, all graphic assets in the kit will not be imported and this impacts the design, please report the item to us
