How to Configure SMTP in RTMForm PRO

Estimated reading: 2 minutes 6 views

Have visitors filled out your form, but the notification never reached your inbox? Or have new users signed up without ever getting their confirmation email? This is one of the most common problems on WordPress sites, and the cause usually isn’t your form.

By default, WordPress sends emails through your hosting server’s PHP mail() function. Providers like Gmail and Outlook often see these emails as untrustworthy, so they end up in spam or get rejected entirely.

RTMForm PRO now solves this with built-in SMTP support. With SMTP, your form emails are sent through an authenticated email account, so admin notifications, confirmation emails, and registration and password reset emails reliably reach the inbox.

Follow the tutorial below to configure SMTP in RTMForm PRO.

Step 1: Make Sure RTMForm PRO Is Installed and Activated

Before configuring SMTP, make sure RTMForm PRO Addons is installed and activated on your website. RTMForm PRO requires an active Rometheme PRO subscription with your account connected. If you haven’t set this up yet, see our guides on connecting your Rometheme PRO account and activating addons here.

Step 2: Open Form Settings

  • In your WordPress dashboard, go to RTMKit → Settings → Form Settings, then scroll down to the Custom Email Configuration section.
  • Turn on the Use Custom Email SMTP toggle.
  • The SMTP settings fields will appear below it.

Step 3: Create an App Password in Your Gmail Account

  • If you use Gmail as your SMTP provider, you can’t use your regular Gmail password. You need an App Password, a special 16-character password that lets apps sign in securely.
